Happy Halloween

Yesterday Mommy left us again to get her hair cut. When she came home she looked the same to us. While she was gone we slept but when she got home we were happy to go outside and enjoy the warm temperatures and lie in the sun.

Today is Halloween and my Mommy and Daddy are going to a Halloween party. We'll stay home and watch tv.

Scorpion

This morning Mommy found a scorpion in the basement. She got the broom and whacked it but I think it was already dead. Then she swept it outside. She wanted to protect us but we weren't afraid. Then she put us outside to play. The UPS man drove up and we were excited. Somebody new came to see 'us'.

Did you know?

  • The Toy Fox Terrier is the AKC's 148th breed.

  • The Toy Fox Terrier is an American breed, resulting from a cross of Fox Terriers with toy breeds such as the Miniature Pinscher, Italian Greyhound, and Chihuahua.
  • The Toy Fox Terrier was developed in the 1930's.
  • The crossbreeding that created the Toy Fox Terrier calmed the feisty terrier disposition of the Fox Terrier to create a milder toy breed.

  • The Toy Fox Terrier is also known as the AmerToy.

  • Originally, the Toy Fox Terrier idea was conceived after runts were born in Smooth Fox Terrier litters (Smooths being brought over from the UK in the 1870's). Crossbreeding over the years created the new breed.

    Is it Friday?

Mommy had to go back to the dentist this morning. It appears she had a filling that broke off so the dentist had to fix it. Plus, she had a chipped tooth and the dentist fixed that too. While she was gone we stayed in the bedroom and slept the morning away. I was on the sofa and my little sister Taz was on the blanket pallet on the floor. That's one of her favorite spots - even though I fight over that spot with her!

When Mommy got home it was evident she had been at Sonic again ;-)

    Ewwww Spiders!

Last night Mommy got scared. She was putting us to bed but then she saw a BIG spider. She got the broom and whacked it but it wouldn't die. So - she screamed real loud. After a while she was ok and then we went to bed. I guess she's afraid of spiders.

Mommy went to the dentist this morning!

This morning Mommy left us alone for a few hours. She had a dental appointment and when she came back her teeth were sparkling clean. We always sleep while she's gone.

Yesterday we ate grasshoppers. They make great appetizers - crunchy and good!

    Monday is a good one!

This morning mommy was in no pain! We're happy about that because that means she gets to play with us. It's a normal Monday...we sleep and she goes about her business. ;-)

    Lizard in a Pot

It was a normal run of the mill Wednesday. We have our routine. Jack and Taz come to the side of the bed to say "good morning". Taz is too tiny and short to put her paws on the side of the bed but Jack can readily put his paws next to me and likes to smell my breath. It's a morning ritual. Jack and Taz are Toy Fox Terriers.

After our morning walk, allowing my dogs to explore and discover and with this being their time for bodily functions...the sun is barely up and it's a nice refreshing walk enough for me to wake up!

I didn't notice anything different in our day but after our afternoon walk which is about 3:30 (sometimes that differs)....Jack and Taz sit patiently in front of the laundry room waiting for me to hand out treats. First, it's cut-up apples, then it's a few crackers -similar to animal crackers but we call them "cookies". A word that has to be said in codes otherwise Jack and Taz's ears will go up thinking they're getting another treat. In this case, the codes are: Cookies = CO; Bones = BO; Stick (as in pressed rawhide stick) = ST. I think you get the picture.

Back to the treats. Taz is my stubborn one. I always have to tell her to sit before handing out treats. The rules are...they have to work for their treats. I don't just hand them out. If they don't sit - then no treats! As Taz was getting her little rump ready to sit I noticed she was sniffing around the front hallway where I have Indian pots on the floor, stuffed animals and a silk flower arrangement under a table in that foyer. Hmmm, I wondered...what is so interesting over there. Maybe it was the air freshener plug-in or maybe the silk flower arrangement smelled. I did a quick sniff myself and didn't smell anything. I shook my head and thought that's weird.

The next day Jack did the same thing. Either before or after our treat time he too smelled around the Indian pots and under that foyer table. After careful looking I did my own snooping. I saw a dark image inside the pot and for a second I thought – ugh, a spider or some scary insect. I was brave and looked inside that pot a bit closer – it was a dead lizard! It was beautiful, glossy and gray. Who knew how long it had been in that pot but it was definitely dead.

I know dogs can pick up even the smallest scent but A Lizard in a Pot?
